offended, that was an update! Oh well, since I am clearly so popular, I will cave to the demands of my reader(s).

So anyway, It is currently approaching snow season in kanazawa, and so for this reason I have purchased some gumboots! They are long, shiny and black, and remind me of storm trooper shoes except not white. I guess this may be a good thing. I am quite looking forward to the snow as I believe it will be a welcome change from the rain (every day, at varying levels of strength between hail and spit). However, I am fearing the cold, and am at this moment wearing two layers of thermals on top and bottom (it is about 5 degrees outside i believe).

Three weeks of class have put me to sleep; summer semesters/intensive programs are kind of annoying because we had our midsem on tuesday after two weeks.... nevertheless my japanese is increasing in fluency especially speaking and listening. I can now hold semi conversations with my host family, though my vocab is still sadly lacking (still can't understand variety shows). despite these deficiencies we are holding a rapport such that they refer to me as "i-rin chan" and give me ocha all the time. YES!

Something strange about kanazawa is that apart from ramen/bakery/kare-/gyudon stores there are also many places selling icecream despite the undeniable coldness. There is also a lack of spicy food which makes me sad!!!!!! However the vending machines that are everywhere saved me in my first week when i got lost on buses all the time and it was raining and cold and there were wonderful hot drinks for 120yen. ^___^ They also have cigarette vending machines in approximately half quantity cf. drinks, which surprised me considering how much the japanese seem to value health (healthy food, surgical masks frequently seen).

Regarding kanazawa, it is kind of small but kenrokuen (third most beautiful garden in japan apparently) is ridiculously pretty and the general landscape is as well. Here is a picture of kenrokuen.

Red/yellow japanese maples and other deciduous trees are everywhere here. I <3 autumn!

I have been goaded into blogging by that subtle hint in alice's post from quite a while ago which i only just read because i have been in japan and busy being overly excited. However I am too silly to collect all my thoughts about japan atm, so here is a post i never published for some reason a while ago:

"are all i can think of right now : ( chicken and avocado ones, made by my mother/matt/jess, cut into small triangles or into fingers. holding them is like holding hands with a dangerous criminal, except in this situation you are the executioner. and in love! sandwiches, begone.

I saw vincent's reflection post and was inspired...except i think that 2010 was definitely the year of food for me, i do not recall being this food-obsessed in the past, or maybe it is just my current mood. okay, i lie. : (

if i were to describe this year in one word it would be: DRIFTING. not just because there has been more rain this year, and I stepped in it often, or anything. nor because I drank a lot of tea. no, it was the loss of my precious land, the land of IB, the ENTER (what is this new atar) that I clung to... cast out, made to walk the plank, I felt lost often, while consoling myself with familiar things like anime and cake. meanwhile i did many foolish things. nevertheless, it seems to have set into a pattern, possibly better than before, that i can accept. i still feel that i need to study harder, and be more socially responsible, but i'm not ashamed of myself, or anything.

NEW YEAR GOALS
1. study harder/more
2. practise more
3. wear more accessories to be more accessible (er, i looked in my drawer and felt ashamed okay)
4. ditto makeup (must stop buying cheap eyeliner)"

Hmm. I indeed managed to practise more and study harder this year, however my accessories wearing has not really increased. Nor do i wear more makeup, shame on me, save for a few attempts at being scarlet-mouthed. This was sort of fun but also nervewracking as what if the lipstick smeared on things? I believe ryan found it exciting, though, as is predictable.

Today is 20degrees for a change. I was quite shocked when i saw the temperature because for the past week it's rained almost every day and been consistently cold, around 5-10 degrees. It also gets dark around 4pm often here, which is disconcerting (probably because no daylight saving?). Other than this I have free wifi in the place i am studying so YES!

Anyway, I will stop for now, i believe this post is long enough, and perhaps will post again?! who knows.

Just recently, sword art online, a light novel which i have also have been reading, has been green lit for an anime...you can read it here

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (OVA and Anime)

- nice art (same artist as Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko)
- funny (my sense of humour)
- pretty girls
- no continous plot (in the manga)
- plenty of other forms of media (translated audio cds, manga, light novels...)
- many notable voice actors
- harem
- stereotypical, and yet likeable characters (male protagonist is a bit of a kyon)

Sankarea (Anime)

- nice art (same artist as did Kenkō Zenrakei Suieibu Umishō otherwise known as Umisho, which also got an anime (and which I've also read))

Persona 4 (Anime)

- awesome music
- enjoyable characters (may change in anime adaptation)

- don't talk to people who have played the game, they will massive spoiler you.

Sono hanabira (short, adult OVA)
NO SEX VERSION BELOW (is why it's only 8 mins):

- yuri
- some character development but mostly sex. play the games for the 'plot'
- investigate (by) yourself please.

Anime which didn't have a sequel at the time I finished them but have a sequel now:

- Darker than Black (i didn't like the sequel though :S. still haven't watched OVAs)
- Working!! (sequel: Working`!!)
- Bakemonogatar (sequel: Nisemonogatari. Prequel, Kizumonogatari, also being adapted as a movie)
- Shinryaku!? Ika Musume
- Nyan Koi! (although not sure if i'll actually watch the sequel)

Honto ni Atta! Reibai Sensei (added 27/4/11)
TYPE: a comedy with a short attention span which is often about odd topics

This is a short flash anime. I'm putting this at the top because it's most likely to be the one you don't know about. It is in a similar style to Haiyouru! Nyaruani but seems more funny and seems to have more actual animation this time round. Runtime is 5 minutes with the ED so it doesn't hurt to try it.

Nichijou
TYPE: light hearted comedy with awesome animation

(Stylised) Animation is awesome, could watch this show just for that. It also makes me laugh, which not many anime are capable of doing. It remians pg as well (the way it looks), although surprised me with the random BL drawing in episode 2. Everyone must watch this, or at least try it! 5stars AA++++ WOULD WATCH AGAIN

Hana-Saku Iroha
TYPE: uplifting Drama/Comedy/Coming of age? story

Everyone seems to love this, and after the first ep, I didn't. But after watching the second ep, I can safely say i'll follow this series to the end, due to it's nice animation, liekable and developing characters, and (third statement makes my writing sound better). You should try this one as well, reader. EDIT2: watched third and fourth episode. whoever is writing this seems to have the same tastes as I found yuri and shibari in the same epsidode. BUT THAT ISN'T EVEN WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH IT.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
Type: lovely Shaft/Shinbo insanity. Think bakemonogatari but for normal people. see analoghousu link at the top for details.

I will probably stick with this series...need to see more episodes before I make a descision. Looks like i'll be in it for the characters rather than the plot, although the female main could turn out to be a yuki nagato (dislike).

Steins;Gate
I like it so far (i usually like science fiction stuff). The main charcter is already getting boring at episode 2, but I like the looks of the female character. Watching for plot, but also to see how the characters are (they are SOMEWHAT likeable)

Hen Zemi TV + OVAS
I love the art style, and sometimes the humor. It is entertaining on a shock level as well as genuinely entertaining/funny sometimes. The OVAS (2) which have been released are longer (~26mins) and contain far more sexually explicit content than the tv series. I wonder if ordinary people (not perverts like me) will understand the OVAs... TL;DR: watch it if you're into something a bit wierd!

Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera
I don't know of anyone who is watching this. This is a remake of an anime (which itself was probably an adaptation of a manga). Only got into it because of a review/preview I read on the net. It has pretty damn awesome retro animation, you should watch ep 1 just for that. Additionally, it is actually funny sometimes / has a fast pace so is entertaining. Reminds me of Panty and Stocking except without all the crudeness and crude humour (only a little bit of panty of stocking mind you). Not sure if i'll keep watching the whole seres but will at least watch the next one.

Tiger & Bunny
After watching the first few minutes, I wasn't too sure about this one. But after watching the first episode (which does not really contain a plot hook) I still want to watch the next one, to follow the story of the main chracter cause he seems like a good guy. No, really.

Astallote no Omocha!
EDIT: it's actually ok. Sorta like hayate no gotoku. ignore what i said earlier.

A Channel
watched first episode. not as good as I thought it would be, I didn't even like it despiteit's shoujo-ai undertones. As everyone else says, it reminds me of k-on and lucky star, except it doesn't seem quite as good as either (well I didn't like k-on that much to begin with..)

[C] – The Money of Soul and Possibility Control
Watched first ep. Really dislike it for some reason....the premise and the characters. Other people like it though, so you should give it a try. The ED is sorta nice looking though. I read somewhere they decoded the QR codes and they actually say somethign

30-sai no Hoken Taiiku
Watched the first episode. I didn't like the humor all that much. The main female character hasn't been properly introduced yet. I 'll probably know if I like it by the second episode.

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
strange I haven't got this yet, it has already come out and looks like my kind of thing

Dog Days
apparetnly it has lots of boobies (starting from second ep) but I haven't seen them yet. I mean I haven't seen the first ep yet, not the boobies.

Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai
Quite itnersting, I have not read up on this so after watching the first episode I was a bit confused. It kept me entertained but for some not so good reasons, perhaps the panty shots and stupid situations. I rememeber the loli also. Need moar eps to make judgemebnt

Hidan no Aria
watched first episode. will probably not watch this at all, due to being somewhat stereotypical, and having a somewhat unlikeable premise for me. has kugiyama rie in it (i think) as a main character. you will probabyl like it if you like shonen, fighting, and kugiyama rie.

Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san TV
Ah, this. Well, I can tell you it has kugiyama rie although in a small side role. It also has biri biri (dono seiyuu's name) and vash from trigun as voice actors for main characters. It's short (12 mins). Try the first episode and see for yourself! I don't remember it being extremley funny, but it was entertaining, and I did not get bored.

Deadman Wonderland
One of the few series I have a love/hate relationship. Breaking it into parts should be easiest:

Music: fitting and non-generic. I like it.

Characters: generic and uninteresting after the first episode. The hot chick is hot though. and a g.

Plot/setting: Somewhat interesting but also somewhat insane...probably can't swallow it unless it's sprinkled with cocaine, which it isn't (cocaine = lovable characteres)

Direction: Not good, althuogh may have been a result following the manga too closely. It's hard to empathise with characters which you have had no time to build up a relationship with, unless you really know what you're doing. By the end of the first episode I wasn't very moved by what happened. I assume the directors would have had more character dev if they had infinite time to write the story

Art: not generic, but I don't love it either. I do have a thing for silver/white haired characters though.

Gintama 2
I only went through some of the original gintama so will probably never end up watching this until sometime inmy late 30s

Only watch if you have read the mangas, otherwise it won't make much sense / you will have no relation to the charactesr (much like the sono hanabira OVA released a while ago). Additionally, as my friend said, the drawing style takes a bit of getting used to...

Ore no Imouto wa konna ni kawaii wake ga nai 13/14(hey, I nearly memorized it!)
If you want to learn how to say 'anal fuck' in japanese, watch it. I quite enjoyed 13 and 14, but as always some segments of these episodes were not so awesome (patchy enjoyment levels). Still worth watching if you're a fan of the series / are otaku enough.

saw HOSHI ni NEgai wo part 1? Cold Body x Warm Heart. Was ok, especialy if you like sci-fi, however overall wasn't that good (and didn't contain THAT much real animation (as opposed to CG), understandable coming from a small studio). Something that you might show to your kids, maybe.TL;DR: plot not so good, but likebale in an odd way (lol tldr doesn't match actuall descrip)

here is my astonishing update.

lately i have been watching anime but not as much as ryan, who, having devoured honey and clover, k-on, mai-hime and minami-ke recently, is now almost through season two of kimi ni todoke. his method of marathoning I find frightening, anyway, I have been watching at my usual pace which is approximately 1 ep a day... after watching mai-hime for the third time while waiting for new eps of kimi ni todoke to come out, I finally decided to watch Toradora! This was a good decision, I LIKE IT, yay.

The weather has been EXTREMELY COLD of late. It is upsetting, and induces shameful showering habits. Do people try to take 4 minute showers using those timer things that were given out? I find it hard to stick to, but generally attempt. However it is SO COLD NOW, the allure of perfumed steam is too great.

I also have too much bread. Does anyone want bread from breadtop? I can't resist taking it home but we can't eat that much...or rather, I am not sure if anyone would want to eat that much. @____@ : (

um. I wish i had other exciting things to say, but I don't really but here you go hungy, this quick post may fulfil your wishes i hope?! maybe wong will post immediately after this, and push this post down (excellent).

How shameful. i discovered two drafts from not so long ago, which were, for some reason, never published (nor finished). oh dear! anyway, here i am after much encouragement/prodding, to entertain and hopefully my audience retain. err.

Recently I have been doing not much except spending a lot of time either with ryan, bread/cake or my jap textbook (and code geass r2 ♥ cc!) so i thought i would blog about some movies i've seen lately as i seem to have been watching many.

in no particular order:

The Reader

This was a very emotionally distressing film, but one that i thought was excellent in its construction/execution! it was pretty also, and i thought the romance was quite beautiful, though others might feel it were inappropriate. anyway, it was very sad, but not in an overly gratuitous or irritating way.

The Piano

This was also semi-distressing but more so in its general atmosphere rather than in specific events. also, the characters (particularly the protagonist/pianolady) were very peculiar! my general impression, if i were to translate the entire film into a single image, would be a tangled, thorny bush on bleak and blackened ground that produces startling red flowers. i liked this film quite a lot and i am not sure why! i suppose the music was also exciting - does anyone know "the heart asks pleasure first"? it is a piano piece (obviously) and is in the piano for leisure book series...anyway, the music (mostly solo piano, but with some string accompaniment) is all by michael nyman and contributes greatly to the atmosphere. i want to watch this movie again! i want to write more, but i will stop, it is silly.

Pan's Labyrinth

I am not sure what to say about this film. It was pretty, both visually and in storyline/characters, and seemed fairytale-like. ryan said it was magical-realism and i feel that it is quite similar in a way to books like chronicle of a death foretold, or house of spirits, but probably more enchanted/MAGICAL. hmm, the music was also okay, also, i wish to say that people who thought this film would scare me were very silly! goodness, it is only slightly gory, but the atmosphere is not conducive to great terror - it is too magical and not creepy enough. also, i did not think the characters were real people, sorry.

Les Choristes

YAY. this is a very nice film! the music is very pretty, it is a french film about shameful/delinquent boys who become choristers, except they are very young/small/cute/strangely good at singing! it is funny, and heartwarming. plus it is french, so is nice! ♥ i liked this film a lot, and would recommend it to EVERYONE.

Date Night

oh dear. tina fey is ♥♥ but i think i may be unused to comedies! also some people like steve carroll. anyway, this movie was quite funny i suppose, but also ridiculous, and kind of tiring to watch as well, because it was so hectic. anyway, i do like tina fey ♥

Tangled

Tangled! i probably don't have to say much about this one, since everyone's already seen it (i assume), except that i liked it, and she was cool, and had exciting hair, and i liked the lantern scene a lot.

sigh. i hope this was interesting, and also everyone should watch 30 rock! ♥

recently i have been doing many exciting things, following end of exams. yay!

Today I went to Castlemaine! It was pretty, and I want to live in Castlemaine now. Plus all the streets had funny names, like Lyttleton Street. Also I went into the bookstore and found a book full of poetry by students at the Castlemaine high school. How impressive. The students had cool names also, like Zorro Maplestone (this is not a joke). Damn being asian. I have now decided my name is Gertrude Heartson.

Other exciting things that have happened include my visitation of passionflower. OMG this was very exciting/wonderful. Ryan and I consumed Sticky Rice, Passionfruit and Espresso, all of which were quite overwhelming particularly the passionfruit sorbet. I also heard a great song about peacocks*.

Speaking of songs, I have been listening to Taylor Swift and John Mayer lately. I really like say! and slow dancing. ♥

How embarrassing. I have not posted for many days/weeks months. In fact i have a feeling I have not posted for the entirety of the semester...oh dear! How embarrassing.

Many things have excited me lately eg. music/anime/vce....HMM

I also made the same brownie recipe three times - the first turned out like stale bread as I forgot to add enough butter. The second time, it was really cakelike for some reason. So the third time I actually made it into muffin-shapes in the hope that it could just actually be a cake and there would be no shameful recipe failing, but i put too much mixture in the tins or something and they overflowed and looked like mushrooms.

AHHH. i just looked through 3 pages of mushrooms in an attempt to find an appropriate image to link to. Unfortunately it was too nauseating/appalling and I gave up...it was like a normal cake with a ridiculous fringe type thing. Kind of like my fringe. Not really. Actually, I am having issues deciding whether to go back to side fringe or to retain this funny not quite straight fringe type thing - due to my laziness I am kind of in an inbetween state atm...gosh. Perhaps I should dye it all pink, i have had this urge lately...oh dear!

Wow. I wonder why i do not blog more often. Look at this really interesting subject material i've delved into.

katherine made me a wonderful omelette and also some yummy oatmeal pancakes. they were so healthy seeming but not really but mostly very very delicious! YAY. she has now inspired me to cook more.

I also recently went to a cafe in Box Hill called 1228! It is opposite the tramstop and is Steph's favourite cafe. Yes, we met at 12:28pm (though regrettably not on the 28th of December. additionally i was late, as is typical of me. shameful).

Wong had the lunch special, a bento box. steph and i chose it for him because there were "so many choices". He refused to look at the menu after this, to choose a more suitable meal. Oh well, he seemed to enjoy it. I enjoyed his drink, it was tangy - Passionfruit Milky Tea! aww. Steph had lychee and I had honey, which INFINITELY SUBTLE YET COMPLEX. Their bubble tea is good and standard-price. They also had, under the jelly/pearl additions, "mango". Wong exclaimed over this, but sadly Steph informed him that it was probably "mango jelly". sadness!

my restaurant review is failing.

I ate their special or something, it was "small". anyway it was REALLY DELICIOUS and i keep CRAVING IT. $8.50 for a large bowl!

They also had cute colourful walls and random triangles on the ceiling. Also, you order by ticking things on a piece of paper, which the waiters then come around and collect!
All in all, a cute and cheap cafe with good/filling food, large serves and nice bubble tea.

I highly recommend it!

Man Journal, Part 1

02/07/10 - Friday
Meals:
Toast for lunch, doritos as snack, pizza for dinner, 3 slices of pizza at about 1:30AM

Sleep Time:
Woke up at 12:00PM. Slept briefly while ben was here at about 4/5 ??? Slept from 4:00AM to 2:00PM the next day

Notable activities:
Ben came over, woke me up at 12. Left at 6:45. Immediately after disassembled laptop to fix broken headphone jacks. Fixed both headphone jacks without soldering anything, but accidentally made one of the jacks think something is plugged in all the time, hence speakers don't work.
My brother is having a sleepover at our house today with some friends.
TPG has not switched over my internet yet :(
Played Fate/Stay Night for a bit at some point. Happy that voices work in this version of it.

Anime watched:
4? episodes of Trigun, 1.5 episodes of Arakawa Under the Bridge, 4 episodes of Lucky Star.

Anime notes:
Trigun: Is awesome. I like the characters alot, and their voice actors
Lucky Star: <3 Konata.
Arakawa Under the Bridge: The voice actor for Maria (Sawashiro, Miyuki: Kanbaru from Bakemonogatari / Girls D.M lead singer from Angel Beats / Canaan from Canaan / Selty from DRRR / Shinku from Rozen Maiden) has a hot voice.

Once upon a time there was a small edible man. His name was Gingerbread*.

Gingerbread had a few bits missing. His buttons had been forcibly dyed by his former lover (the rain) whom had coloured them brown to match his eyes. Or rather, eye.

Good luck Gingerbread! I hope the rain doesn't destroy you. Sometimes relationships can be destructive like that.

Had breakfast with Vincent in a little cafe near Flinders Street Station. This was delicious! Rich, golden egg yolk amazes me. Hollandaise sauce almost feels like overkill (surely not).

Recently, many people seem to be going through parent difficulties. This is nothing new, of course. But it seems as though the independence gained through graduating high school and entering uni may lead to further conflict between teenagers and their parents, who may feel as though they have no control, while of course teenagers are just like, "why should they control me anyway?!!!"

Parental control is something that teenagers rebel against, even while inwardly acknowledging that their parents only want the best for them and may, indeed, know better. However while contemplating the relationship between parents and children, i began to wonder whether respect for parents on the part of the child was implicit or had to be earned. Or, to go further, whether children still had an obligation to treat their parents with respect even if they themselves were not respected by their parents.

Some time ago, my father said to me, "I am not looking for equality in this relationship."

As soon as he said this, I immediately felt rather disturbed, as though a wrong note had been sounded in a chord. For even if there is no equality in a parent-child relationship at the point when that child is only a teenager, would there not come a time when equality (equilbrium, lol) was achieved? If we consider "capability to look after" as the criteria for "superiority", it would then seem that after that point the "superiority" would shift towards the side of the child, who (then an adult) would then become increasingly "superior"? I guess this means that equality would not be achieved for a while. The point I am trying to make is that although some parents do not anticipate their loss of "superiority", they are unfortunately doomed to become such. Similarly, it is expected and even favourable that teenagers should strive towards greater independence, in light of their increasing "superiority" as opposed to their parents' "inferiority".

Not that I am saying parents are inferior, or anything. Nor that teenagers should ignore the advice of their elders. Simply, that perhaps parents and children should try to think outside of the parent-children relationship, and view each other simply as people...on second thoughts this might lead to bad things.

What do you think? Is equality between children and parents ever achievable, or even desirable? And if so, is teenage rebellion justified?

New song and my favorite voice actor

On Monday of this week I became a fan of "c.cedille" [a band]. C.cedille is not famous. C.cedille's singer is Emily. Emily's voice is good. I like her new song, it's name is "Hidamari".

My favorite music is anime music [not really]. Yuu Kobayashi is an anime voice actor. Ms Kobayashi's song's name is "Hanaji" [means nosebleed]. Hanaji is not serious at all. Ms Kobayashi's voice is strange, but interesting.

I was stalking alice and dana and felt that i too should post about my life in a similar style, ie, using abbreviated/changed names and more detail than i usually give. Hence, the title of this post, which is an acronym for Yi-Ling Ate Yogurt. (This is a lie, unfortunately, however I did eat some nutella this morning.)

Anyway, my life lately has been fun. I had an enjoyable time when SA unexpectedly accompanied me to Wong's house and exclaimed over how castle-like it was. This was also slightly embarrassing in that I realised how much i treat wong's house as my own.

wong: "There's a motion sensor that makes the light turn on when someone is outside the house."
yi-ling: "There is someone outside our house!"
Thus perpetuating the common belief that wong and i are married, even though if we were married wong's house would still not be my house.

I also saw VC yesterday! I wish that he did not give so many details of his relationship with JC (?). Hmm. However, it was entertaining in some ways. I then ran into VC (other) and other PLCs, as it was JL's birthday. Happy birthday JL! More importantly, I regained my umbrella, which made me feel rather contented and secure. This was strange as i have already obtained the meaning of life, however any rain-repelling device is a bonus i suppose. Which reminds me, WC gave me her veryshiny silver jacket, which is also waterproof! Although many people seem to dislike it for its intense shininess, I am very grateful as it is both warm and rain-repelling. Thank you WC.

My mother has asked me what i am doing. I think she disapproves of my blogging even though i do not do it very often : ( What a shock. Unfortunately this means that i must stop now and revert to reading harry potter fanfic. Additionally, I feel that i am unable to keep up this style of blogging sadly enough. : ( Nevertheless...

Today, I went to my chem lecture. It was, however, cancelled, and I did not know that it was cancelled because I skipped the lecture on Tuesday.

I then went to the airport lounge to kill time before my biology lab. I met Freddo and Dave before I even could go inside the campus centre. We went inside and talked for a while. Then I saw OJ.

I asked OJ, "Have you had your bio lab yet?".

He replied "There are no bio labs on this week".

And ~~the disciples returned to their villages to spread the message of Jesus~~ then I was sad.

Hello. I feel the need to blog about a very distressing event in my life. This event took place approximately 30 mins ago, over a very short space of time.

But wait. If I think about it, it probably went back further than that...to the past few weeks.

"Gosh are you even able to see anything?" remarked one of my friends.
"I like the way it looks..." another told me.

"I feel stupid because one of my eyes is entirely hidden..." I thought.

And so, the fateful incident was set in motion. As I tooted away on my beloved rod (no sexual pun intended), I came to the conclusion that I would chop it off to a decent length, and expose my right eye to the light of the world once more.

and so, I rushed upstairs, eager to begin the process. I thought, "oh this won't take long!"

The first chop was rather satisfying. I peered at myself, thinking unwisely, "this is unsufficient i must cut more." And then... "oops!"

I was horrified by what i saw in the mirror:

WHAT IS THIS TRAVESTY OF FRINGES? Neither straight, nor even...too short to be attractive, yet indecisive in its length...and worse, it was two-toned due to my regrowth (visible even despite the slow-growingness of my hair)!

Additionally my (awful) eyebrows are now visible. WOE IS ME. (do you see my horrified expression)

Ahh. While there are those of you who feel I may be overreacting to this ("hair will grow back in a few weeks...don't worry yi-ling"), I do feel that my hair mishap is small compared to that of my brother, who in an attempt to cut his own hair has carved two lines into the side. He has informed me that he will tell people who ask him that "the hairdresser tripped". LOL

Hi. I've been guilted into posting by Viv's subtle message that "nobody else is updating" , and also by the profusion of wongposts that I see everytime i open this blog. Yes, I am aware that I haven't posted regularly for a while (or at all). Sadly, this is very unlikely to change. Ahem.

To give you a taste of life as a music student (since people always ask me what music students do):
I have 4 lectures a week, performance practice, a private lesson, orchestra rehearsal, choir rehearsal and an occasional double reed workshop (+ law lectures). All four lectures are rather boring, especially aural studies. Btw my homework for that consists of training my ears using this chord trainer. Try it! It is unexpectedly difficult, well I thought so anyway.

Last week at performance practice, I had a revelation. This revelation was connected to my longtime indifference towards cellos and preference for violins. Anyway, two piano trios were performing and the violinists and pianists were average, but in both the cellists unexpectedly stood out. And as I was listening, I suddenly thought...
CELLOS SOUND REALLY BEAUTIFUL.

Something about the mellow, throbbing melancholy of the tone captures the soul of the music and conveys its emotion. Violins are also amazing obviously but I feel that cellos resonate more with people's hearts, instead of being soaring and otherworldly.

I also like lower brass more than I ever thought I would. Interestingly enough it really fills out the sound of large ensembles.

HMMM as you can see I spend alot of my time doing music-related things now/watching anime. Law is also fun, though I ...still have not done my court report OHHH DEAR. : (

Here's to another update in 1 month (hopefully less!)

At the end of Japanese class today, Inaba-sensei asked if someone could help her carry her stuff up to the fourth floor. Instantly, Stooph raised her voice and said "Daniel wants to!" (or something along the lines of that).

Anyway, Inaba asked in Japanese while we (1) were in the lift whether I had studied Japanese before. I said I had not...because I had not. Then (for whatever reason) she said my Japanese was good (referring to spoken 日本, since she had not seen our tests yet).

Inaba then asked student O the same thing, to which O replied "I haven't before but i've watch j-dramas, listen to j-pop (i think) and also enrolled in a jap school recently". I also noted that Inaba never said O's Japanese was good, for whatever reason (again, referring to spoken japanese).

At this point I realized that I could have said 'I watch a whole lot of anime' as a better response, since it would seem odd that I could speak well without ever hearing a word of Japanese. If she complimented me first, then asked if I had studied Japanese I would probably have said I watched anime.

While I was thinking about this, Inaba and O were having a good conversation about a certain j-pop singer (2), so I couldn't butt in and say what was slightly annoying to me.

I even thought about it later, to the point where I was deciding whether I should email her to tell her, then realized it would be stupid as most likely she wouldn't even remember about the fact in the first place.

I also ran the situation in my mind that I had actually said "I haven't , but I watched a lot of anime" and realized that I may have spoken with her about anime and not allowed O to speak about j-pop with the teacher.

Finally I settled on the fact that, if she was really thinking how weird it was that I could speak Japanese OK (3), then she would have asked specifically if i had gone to japan/listen to japanese music/watch Japanese media.

Anyway, the point of this banter is to have insight about the types of thoughts I have, and what i 'worry' about. And this is what I thought about today.　さよなら！

While the internet has been a great friend of mine the past ....10 years, it has let me down today.

I was reading a user's blog on myanimelist and the post was entitled 'Ten Worst Anime of 2009'. I was reading the 4-panel comics which the user had drawn in paint. THEN SUDDENLY A WILD SPOILER APPEARED.

What I was really upset about was that the spoiler was entirely unrelated to the ten anime which were on there - specifically it was for the Higurashi series - which i had watched the entire first season of. This gave me no chance of saving myself from the spoilage.

If you don't know, Higurashi is quite heavily plot based....so i was upset :(. If only I could drug myself to make me forget this event....or i can come back in 5 years time when I have forgotten this event ever happened.

This is the second time I have had an anime spoiled for me, fortunately the first time it was just the ending to endless eight....although I couldn't properly experience the shock value of the finale.

Here's my take on Wensi's excellent poem. WARNING: there may be spoilers for Avatar

Wensi Cai, one of the foremost poets of the "2010" generation, has created in her poem "ICU (for now)" a striking picture of the world as presented in the recent film, "Avatar". Through dramatic use of imagery and metaphor, Cai encapsulates the sweeping, gorgeous landscape of Pandora as well as providing a darker view of the Na'vi's way of life. The first reference to "Avatar" can be seen in the use of the letters, "ICU", to form the title of the poem. These letters represent both sides of the conflict over Pandora; for while Jake Sully and the Earthlings initially appear to consider only that "I C Unobtainium", Jake gradually grows to understand the Na'vi's consideration of nature and harmony, and as such, his changing view is represented in the Na'vi greeting, "I see you (insert hand signal)". That "ICU" also stands for the Earth term, "Intensive Care Unit", foreshadows the demise of Jake's human self, as well as the many deaths that occur throughout "Avatar". Similarly, the use of the bracketed aside "for now" creates a sense of doom, as seen in the sense of time running out for the Na'vi and Pandora. It can thus be seen that through the innovative use of the acronymn "ICU", reminiscent of internet slang such as "brb" and "lol", Cai has provided an immediate link for all of the "2010" generation to relate to, while creating a haunting, moving picture of the "Avatar" world.

Cai's affinity for alliteration and regularity in both rhythm and rhyme is demonstrated in the use of the alliterative "twirling and twisting...flowing then falling...sliced smooth", as well as the alternative line-rhyming. These techniques contribute to a sing-song, nursery-rhyme quality, contrasting with the

CLOTHING SAFETY

I was going to do a post about how people should be careful about the way they dress - or rather how i've almost been reconsidering some of my clothing choices due to not wanting to be "propositioned" (as wensi put it when i informed her that i wished to purchase a pair of thigh high boots) - but then Wong posted his blog review thing and I was like, damn I don't want to post and then not have anyone scroll down and read his post, and then I just got lazy and didn't post.

I have, however, been inspired to post again, this time with some pictures of the exciting food I made last night:

This was supposed to be flower-topped hamburger (you know, like in Rozen Maiden) but we only had a star-shaped mould that Matt bought from Singapore, as well as a bird-shaped one. Sorry, I didn't take a picture of the bird-shaped egg as it turned out badly/i forgot. Apologies.

The recipe I used for the hamburger was from Happy Home Baking, one of my favourite food blogs! Not that I, you know, spend a lot of time reading food blogs. Mostly just this one, which I think I got from a link on Viv's blog. Thanks viv. Also, the photos are from my phone, which excites me for some reason. ...yes.

I think I have to improve my food photography in future.

In other news, I have been doing many exciting things, such as watching 30 Rock. Recently, wong bought me a 30 rock calendar for Christmas!!!! YAY. Thank you won-won. I have hung it up on my wardrobe door, which means that I look upon Jack Donaghy's January face...fairly often. Well. This site is differnt. It is completely text/plot(UNLIKE AVATAR) driven, and self contained - ie does not rely on large pictures,or links to other content. Most posts are slice of life.

Writingstyle: very conversational, use of ellipses ("..." that type of ellipses).

I said i wouldn't comment on the appearance but I do like the choice of colours. It is pleasing to the eye, and quite different from other blogs.

IT SEEMS MY SECRET HAS BEEN REVEALED.

Apologies to ***** LOL although i attempted to conceal your name and hence save you (and myself) from embarrassment, it appears that I have failed in this attempt. Now my true stalkerish nature has emerged.

Over the years I have become adept at stalking randoms. My friendship with Vincent, as well as the rise of Facebook, have aided me in this. I would go into this more but it is too embarrassing and actually not very interesting when i think about it.

Sadly, few of my stalkings have actually ended in true friendships. I have realised that this is because the relationship is onesided - my feelings of stalkerish affection for them far exceed their feelings of victimish fear!

In fact, if i think about it, I have not even been able to become friends with one stalkee as despite our apparent friendliness i still felt overly awed by him/her/it.

Thus, we may conclude that stalking is a potential threat to a potential friendship. (I use this term as a term for stalking ones who one is not really friends with but of course one can also stalk one's friends, which could result in issues also as one might find out things that could become potential sources of conflict)

... sadly i have not decided to stop stalking people. ANYWAY

I really like the avatar soundtrack! I like the song they play at the end of it. Even though it had boring/cliche plot/characters, I still liked the movie alot. I think this is due to its suck-in quality. I believe that this suck-in quality accounts for much of the movie's popularity, and may be more or less for different people depending on how much they value visuals/happy endings/cool scifi places. Wong did not experience the suck-in quality to a great enough extent to justify (for him) the movie's negative qualities. Hence, Wong did not like Avatar.

HAHAHA I AM FREE OF IT NOW!

I feel rather relieved.

Although my life now seems slightly empty, i shall fill it with useful things such as:
- watching avatar/sherlockholmes/anime/30rock
- getting the remaining 40 hours of driving before feb 22nd (wth i feel panicked)
- trying to earn money...somehow
- regaining my oboe skills
- eating

Btw is anyone going to tutor?? I am actually thinking of tutoring chem...can't really think of anything else I can tutor. I am definitely not well qualified enough to tutor latin unless they really suck in which case i don't think there's much point (oh gosh that was rather harsh) i'll stop talking now.

hope everyone is happy with their results, or at least, not devastated - hopefully we'll all forget about them soon...

In other news, met up with some plc's! Jadey is exceedingly nice. I like her very much. I also like Steph and Sue Wei and Vanessa. We had a fun time and watched some of 27 dresses (the guy is so cute <3) I kind of want to watch some movies. Keep hearing Avatar is really good or something. Why on earth did I watch new moon in cinema?!! (or at all) I also wish to watch the Hannah Montana movie. Wensi's review of it was very intriguing. Most recently I watched 500 Days of Summer on the plane hmmm the sound was rather bad, but it seemed likeable.

Must also stop stalking Alice's blog. This is hard.

Oh my. It is Christmas Eve in 15 mins! How not very exciting (apologies).

Oops i wanted to complain about/discuss the service in Singapore but this post seems overly long now. well well well. Perhaps you shall read another of my amazingly interesting blog entries soon.

Currently at the residence of the Wongs. It is a castle-like manor/mansion on the Upper East Side, here in VCE-ville. Fun is to be had by playing cards/talking/drinking vodka (straight from the bottle I SAW YOU ****** [not wensi])/eating pizza/doing nothing/playing piano.

Excessive amounts of food fill this house. It is disturbing even for a food-obsessed girl such as myself.

Moving on from culinary delights of Wong's family...

I have been doing many wonderful things since returning from my eventless schoolies week. As you may have heard, very little of note occurred during my time in Sorrento, except that we were forced to pay large amounts of money as compensation for the "damages" we had inflicted on the lovely place we were staying at. Speech night was also fun, as were the preceding rehearsals. Weather has been fluctuating greatly, providing some excitement for us. VCE scores also came out. This was exciting for some, even those such as myself who do IB.

Just went to a concert by a group called Raga Dolls Salon Orchestra. Was expecting pseudo-classical Viennese waltzes, some of which they did play, but actually heard some cool GYPSYISH music. It was rather exciting. I like tangos! Especially Emily's tango piece, and the tango bg music in Bakemonogatari. ^___^

Anyway. Last week I was on the tram home from my Eco exam when two old men sat down opposite me. I was wearing this shirt.

($5 from cotton on, bought as a set of 5 for my wind quintet, No Strings Attached. Yes, I was very excited to find it. Sadly I did not consider the other implications of such a slogan, and in fact never do when wearing it. A mistake, perhaps.)

So I was sitting there and one of the old men kept giving me weird looks. After a while, he said something like this: "Ah, no strings attached - that's the kind of woman I like."
To which I replied: "Ah. Yes."

...a brilliant response.

The old men cackled.

Thankfully, the tram soon stopped and I got out. So did they.

I crossed the road and sat down at another tram stop, to make my way home. After a while, I looked up and yes, they were there, and yes, there was another comment:

Old man to other old man: "Look, it's the girl with no strings attached."

cackle cackle.

..and that is the end of my adventure with my No Strings Attached shirt. Sadly, I doubt i shall stop wearing it, despite the aura of disrepute it may give me. I am a Loose Girl. um..lol.

Well. Exam #1, Chemistry, was not bad. I am not sure if i "won" but I do hope it was alright.

Not really much to say about this, except that I have a problem with the intensely staring, sl0w-speaking lady who conducts our exam. I suppose there might be a need for her to check over all our papers but must she stare at us so disapprovingly while we do our exams?! And why must they whisper so loudly??? :(

Hope everyone went ok, but it was a fairly standard exam imo (although I feel paranoid about getting the entire first question wrong...I can't tell if what i did was right or not). Also, those tags that are used to connect our hole-punched papers are so cool!

HIGHLIGHTS OF IB

while stuck in limbo waiting for dinner - waiting for exams - waiting for myself to stop procrastinating -

I decided to compile a list of my personal highlights of IB. However, this is not limited to academic highlights (in increasing order of highlightness):

5. unseens
4. maths portfolio (generally acknowledged as one of the major highlights of ib)
3. TOK essays (these were so great)
2. all music exams
1. eco classes

But seriously, I actually did enjoy IB quite a lot. Who knows why. Maybe it's because of:

- battle of the bands
- IB choir
- the ib vs vce battle in yr 12 video
- HL english classes
- composition recordings (strangely fun)

But the best part of IB would have to be:

experiencing the amazing thing that is IB-bonding. Not ionic, nor dispersion, but covalent; electrons of knowledge/aid were shared among atoms that would not break apart at low temperatures (but possibly at high ones), and which would always create large amounts of heat while being broken. I will miss the IB community as I plunge into a sea of delocalised electrons. Good luck everybody!

i have received complaints that i do not update this blog as much as i ought to. so, to follow the trend of various bloggers updating frequently of late, I decided to uh...update. don't let this stop you from reading wong's excellent posts, though. he rarely posts with inane information about his life (as i generally do). ahem. apologies.

current things that are inspiring me:
- the turtle print singlet i purchased from, yes, that wonderful place called Kmart, last week. With this, I can now showcase my not-so-unique awkward-turtle nature, as well as my great skill for creating awkward turtles, which is embodied in the amazing Turtle Print Singlet. It's almost as if i am a walking advertisement for awkward turtles! kind like i am endorsing Turtles, kind of like Nike, but not really. uh..yeah.
- Chiaki. Yes, I decided to procrastinate more and downloaded ep1 of Minami-ke Okaeri, ie. the apparently okay third season of Minami ke (vs. the wonderful first season and the vaguely repelling second season). I MISS THE SCARY FACES! : ( Other than that, Chiaki is still strangely endearing.
- four of my teachers have informed me that my writing is too small and very hard to read. I am now quite scared that my examiner may refuse to mark my paper. Hence, I have resolved to write more legibly. Well, it sounds easier than it is, okay.
- NO MORE 7:30AM WINDSYMPH REHEARSALS.
- kath's amazing dancing. she has a really inspiring pelvic-thrust move. it was so amazing that it induced an inspired rendition of Lacrimosa (from Mozart's Requiem) by Wensi.
- stooph talked to me today. inspiring.

Cannot believe there are so few days left of school. It's kind of dulling my anxiety for exams, the knowledge that ...well, this is the end. It's so surreal. I guess we have a lot of time to accept that school is nearly over though, with all the end of year events, but even so, I feel perpetually confused. Especially since we keep having classes for the last time, rehearsals for the last time - it's really strange to think, gosh i will never do this again. I mean, it's kind of like my world (based around school like the true nerd i am) is collapsing. No wonder I want to watch anime all the time.

...but don't worry. we still have our blogs.

Sure, this has been done before. I just thought i'd write up my answer for this problem. I will assume you have read what the problem is already.

There are only two possibilities behind the door you pick: either a car or a goat. The probabilities for each are 1/3 for a car and 2/3 for a goat (before you do any switching etc).

Let us consider the first case, with the car behind the door you pick. Now the GSH reveals a goat. In this case, since the other, unrevealed door is also a goat, it would be best to not switch. Therefore, in the 1/3 case that you do have the car, you should not switch.

The other case would be if you had a goat. The GSH will unveil another goat. The unrevealed door now contains a car. In this case, you should switch, in order to obtain a car. However, the chance that this case is the one you have is 2/3.

This means that, overall, switching will be beneficial, since 2/3 times switching will will allow you to win.

I found this way of thinking through a little easier than the methods on Wikipedia. I'm not sure why. I hope my explanation is not wrong.

well. we are slightly beyond halfway point in the holidays and, with practice exams less than a week away, all I can think about is Twilight, The Musical. Part 2 is here.

Truly amazing. I have restrained myself from watching more, however, in fear that my family will hear my shrieks of laughter and think that I am insane. Or not studying. Which I am. Anyway.

Other distractions include the new TV show, Glee, the presence of which both Wensi and Rama alerted me to. This is about a choir (YES! LIKE CHOIR! sort of), except it sucks (not like choir) and they do cool dance moves (not like choir). The thing I like most about this show is the exciting music, which is alot better than High School Musical. Except that it consists of covers. Not that that's a bad thing - in fact it means that you will probably have heard msot of the songs before (unless you are like me and don't listen to english music often). It is slightly confusing and jumbly though, but I'm hoping that's going to get better - after all, only episode 1 and 2 have aired so far.

Anyway, if you are looking for a way to procrastinate, Glee is an entertaining way to spend an hour on Thursday nights. It airs at 7:30 pm on Channel 10. You can also stream it on their website. WTH! i totally did not know you could do that until now. How weird. But that might use up a lot of your download, so I don't know if you would want to do that.

Well. My holidays have been fairly wonderful. I have also been eating a lot, very exciting.

My Supre Experience

Today I went to Westfield for the first time since its renovation. It is exceedingly shiny, even inside shops! If trying on clothes on top of other clothes there is no need to use dressing rooms - one can simply use most surfaces within the shop as a mirror (kind of like at school where everyone stares at themselves in glass doors/windows/the glass on framed pictures).

Anyway. The point of writing this blog was to comment on my experience within Supre. This is a delightful store. It used to be pink but is now black and often has very loud music playing. As I ventured inside the store, I noticed a number of things:
1. There seemed to be about 10 of each design in a number of different colours (makes one wonder where they get all the stock from - or maybe they do not sell much?)
2. EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE REALLY TIGHT! perhaps i should go on a diet! i felt upset by this.
3. The people in the store seemed to consist of girls under the age of 16 (from my estimation). I wondered, belatedly, if i was too old to be in the store. (distressing)

I did not buy anything.

However, I did feel concerned for the fate of young children, lured into the world of SEXUAL PREDATORS. How can young girls achieve 99.95 if they fixate on fashion/are raped and traumatised? Besides, such tight clothes encourage anorexia.

Based on my experience at supre, I have derived the following equation:
Supre = young girls
Supre = tight clothes
Tight/revealing/short clothes + young girls = danger (for girls/pedophiles)

So...I was opening up my Lexicon Omega audio recording thing because....well it kept on dying and i don't think i can return it anymore (i'm voiding the warranty by opening it, but you can't tell that i opened it.)

I turned it upside down, and unscrewed some of the bottom plate's screws. I then heard a clunk, of something heavy falling down. Once I fully opened the case i found out what it was.

They were metal plates. I thought removed the plates which had aided in cooling the mosfets, or something. BUT THEY WEREN'T FOR THAT. Additionally, the bottom metal plate which came off (in black) also served no purpose. Well, it did serve one purpose. To make the product seem more expensive. (actually it could be to give it a lower centre of mass so it doesn't fall over...but couldn't they have made it horizontally?

I mean, who wants to buy a product which feels as if it's about to break? Consumers associate weight with a quality product, so that is what they get. It also servers to differentiate this top level product from the bottom level (this is the best of 3 lexicon audio interfaces).

I was thinking of getting a zoom H6n or whatever it's called...the new one. I have another zoom product which works fine, a guitar pedal. I have not opened that, but i'm sure it's weight is due to precise engineering, not clever marketing.

If lexicon has another reason for these plates, they should tell me, as i will immediately take down this blog.

One of the tips my head of year gave was to avoid falling into a late night sleeping pattern. I agreed with him, noticing that, even if i got the same hours of sleep, sleeping late reduced my mental capacity throughout the day.

Despite what has been written and inferred by certain people, this blog is not ending. However (as I realised recently) Yr 12 is.

HOW DISTURBING.

As i checked my plc email I noticed that "this friday form assembly will be put aside for a preliminary locker cleanup". My initial reaction was ??!?!!!! and then "oh dear! maybe we will not have lockers next term!" and then "oh dear, we are actually leaving plc after all...how disturbing".

I don't know about other people's feelings towards their schools but I am actually quite sad about leaving plc. As wensi often points out (sneeringly, like snape) I am a Junior School Girl and have actually been at plc since year 3...ie for TEN YEARS (not as long as viv/sav though).

sigh. and, like, there were no guys. not that i am sexist, but I highly doubt i will experience guyfreedom again. unless I go to an all girls' college. or teach at a girls' school. or..er anyway, yes my point is that a special time is almost over. i am sure it had its flaws and things but i will miss it too.

my music recital is over, too - i feel a bit stunned. and angsty august is nearly over, too.

Ah...hi again (yes i am sorry for that post but i am glad some people found it funny)

Being a true slacker, over the holidays i've been watching some tv shows in an attempt to avoid my homework. Probably not the best idea, but, you know, it was fun. I also realised today when i was reading up on anime that i haven't watched anime for ages : ( i remember that idyllic time when i spent hours hunched in front of my computer screen, allowing tears to run freely from my eyes as Shirou confessed his love for Saber...

Ok, that was a lie, i don't think i actually cried in fate/stay night (i'm sure chewy would disapprove greatly of such emotional affectations in such a um, inferior anime to haruhi) ....moving on to my next point, season 2 of haruhi is out. so i have been watching that.

Is it just me, or has mikuru become more annoying? I swear i liked her before, in season one. I think that as my love for mikuru has waned, i have begun to like haruhi more. Slightly. I think that my preference for the girls goes like this:

haruhi > yuki > mikuru

and kyon >>> itsuki (which is slightly better than before when kyon >>>>>>> itsuki)

Has anyone noticed that yuki keeps wearing her school uniform? I think it is because she is so bored that she can't be bothered changing anymore. Also, why do they have so many swimsuits o__O they..seem to change every episode. um.

anyway haruhi 2 is the only anime i've been watching lately, but I'm sure wong could tell you more about the anime he's been watching. It's...not hentai though. I think.

So apart from anime, there is this great tv show called

We had house sport yesterday and somehow i ended up playing soccer. This was actually quite fun surprisingly enough, despite my lack of skills. Sadly my house captain seemed to be unable to understand that i actually lacked these skills.

...as you can see, she also seemed to keep forgetting my name.

Later I attempted to kick the ball as it was coming towards me. Sadly my foot went over the ball and hit..the air. This was unfortunate, but not unexpected.

I have never been accused of this before in such a serious tone.

Katherine confessed to me today. She told me that she would "turn homo" for me. Well, now we know the reason behind all of her boob-punching. Hah! I believe that her verbal attacks on my "boobies" are in fact, fuelled by her intense desire for me.

Wind symphony: an ensemble that rehearses at 7:30am on Wednesdays

A few weeks ago, I was cleaning my oboe with a cloth. that is pulled through the oboe. As the oboe becomes thinner nearer to the top, problems may occur when a knot or some unforeseen increase in thickness of the cloth draws closer to this area. To my distress, a knot had in fact knotted itself (OR BEEN KNOTTED?) in my oboe cloth! This resulted in several attempts to remove it using:

- a small screwdriver

- the red toolbox that is in Mr Squibb's office

- a sparkler (which was in the music staff room - i wonder what they do to celebrate on birthdays)

All these attempts proved fruitless. My oboe was then sent to a specialised oboe-maker/repairer who removed the tattered cloth using a "special tool".

...yes, anyway. I am not sure what the purpose of that story was. It was upsetting at the time. Especially since it was impossible to play it with a cloth sticking out of the place where the reed should go. Also, it could have gotten scratched by the sparkler! What then? Would my oboe no longer sound like an oboe and instead like a clarinet? :( :( :(

Another event occurred in windsymph this morning where i looked in my reed case and discovered several black-green fronds of mould sprouting furrily from my reeds.

it was EXTREMELY HORRIFYING imagine, my currently played on reed had been in such a mouldy environment as this, with the furry fronds possibly touching it! I had stuck in my mouth a possibly diseased and FURRY item of reed!

I felt extremely disturbed.

That is why (after discarding the mouldy reeds) I have decided never to put away reeds while wet. They must always be allowed to dry. This is true for bassoonists as well, and probably clarinetists. And saxophonists. And reed instrument players.

I am not sure how i have ended up in the computer room, blogging while all of those HL chem people are still doing their exam (lol) - even so it seems a bit silly. But you know, exams have dissolved my social life (ie. msn) so i do not seem to have anything to do now except wait for the HL people to come out and complain about how hard their exam was. Ok I must predict their responses:

Fiona - oh, it was alright, there were some things i didn't know but i think i did ok
Kath - did you get the question on [insertHLthing]? it was so hard. like the whole thing was really hard. I studied so much but i think i did really badly.
Wensi - hahaha chem! oh well, at least it was better than maths
Viv - ...must study for Bio

Anyway, exams are halfway through now. The maths exam was horrible, all the more so because it would have been very possible if only i/we had studied the correct things enough (ie. statistics). As viv has commented, kristen did, in fact, miss the exam because she thought it was at another time. Gosh i would have felt rather panicked if i were her - she seemed quite relaxed though, i suppose she can do it at some other time/perhaps she was already resigned to having missed it.

Oh my. Extended essay is due in two weeks! And mine only half written! Dear oh dear.

Exams would be better if i were more focussed. And if i had already finished all my internals. As it is, I seem to still not have finished my music investigation or my extended essay. They feed on the pitiful limbs with biting : ( Gosh what an awkward translation.

I feel as though i am capable of exam revision with encouraging music such as this. I actually like carbon chem now o__O I think it is also because it is standard level. ahaha.

On thursday i had four spares. YES. i must recount my spare adventures:
p1 - music spare (ms friend was away); emily played Secret <3 and i tried to learn it
p2 - FAL spare (mr green was away); composed YAY.
p4 - eco spare (HL classes only for the next 2 or so weeks); did some eco homework
p5 - actual spare; gossiped with fiona/wensi

Who invented them and why are they so irritating? Gosh. I do not wish to continue with this. Yet it seems that i must : ( How saddening.

I feel rather disorganised. Somehow I find internal assessments difficult. I feel unable to think! IB offends me. Then again, I am also quite excited for formal LOL just like everyone else i seem to only be able to talk about formal-related things at this time. Last night i had a shocking dream. It was set at school and we seemed to be getting back some sort of results. At first i thought it was just our midyear exams or something, but as the dream went on, it became increasingly clear to me that it was in fact our final IB results, except with uh, details of the courses we got into.

I opened mine and i couldn't understand the code i think i was not reading it properly, so i was just like, oh okay : ( So I started to walk around and ask other people what they got. I remember that i asked viv.

me: viv, what did you get into?
viv: i didn't get into anything!!!

i don't remember my reaction LOL yes um

then i uh, went over to zoe's group, and zoe was like, i didn't get into anything either, and then tanji kept talking about nothing, and joan got really upset because nobody was listening to her, they were all listening to tanji. o____O yes i do not know

finally i opened my results and i saw that i got um 9 results i do not know why. i suppose it could have been cas/ee but all of them were over 3, so i am not sure. They were: 7, 4, 6, 7, 5, 7, 4.

My first thought was: omg! what is that 4! it must be eco. But i couldn't find out what subjects they were! it was extremely distressing.

I then looked down the paper, where it listed the courses one had uh, got into. On my paper there was only one:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Course details: In this course, students learn skills such as running and jumping, as well as basic coordination.

At that point my dad came into my room and woke me up.

WHAT A HORRIFYING DREAM !

NB: for some reason i don't remember anyone else being in that dream except for Wong, who was kind of following me around as i went to talk to viv and so on, then provided a comforting presence as i read the details of my future in physical education. : (

I feel withdrawal from puzzles with the end of puzzle hunt : ( In the end we came 28th:

Matt's team put on a rush of creative thinking at the end and came 11th! I must however state that there was one point on Thursday i think, when we were actually TWO PLACES ABOVE THEM. Matt even asked me for help. AHAHAHA. Sadly they outstripped us from there.

Anyway, I look forward to Puzzle Hunt next year, and hope i'm not too busy/uninterested to do it. Who knows, maybe there will be a PLC Yr 13 group! That would be rather exciting.

Since torturous term one has come to an end i have some exciting plans for the holidays! These are:

- get up to 4000 words in extended essay
- compose two pieces - WTH? yes, it seems that music HL's are expected to write two compositions, even though we are clearly not mozart. or bach. or anyone like that. perhaps i can write bad ones (actually there should be no perhaps here)
- rehearse with 45 for battle of the bands
- eat.

"WHAT? A movie review on this blog?" (you may or may not say in disbelief)

It isn't really a review. Just some thoughts vaguely related to the movie ('Knowing' is the name of the movie). The first thought is of the fact that I visited one of the locations the movie was filmed. I recognised it immediately as being familiar, the site being the Synchotron in Australia. This is not that surprising considering most of the movie was filmed in Melbourne.

The second thought I felt after the movie, when I realised I should have probably seen different movie. To combat this problem ever occuring again, I have formulated a movie plan to be carried out by me before I watch the movie. Here it is:

I think the best description of 'Knowing' is a mashup of "War of the Worlds", but more philosophically orientated in purpose (in terms of actual screentime, it has roughly the same amount of action). As Yi-Ling commented after she watched the film, there were MANY unnecessary 'shock' scenes, which held no other purpose but to keep the viewer awake. I also realized there was a scene which does not make sense if you finish watching the movie (a contradiction).

If you like a somewhat depressing action film which, as many modern films today do, sacrifices good story telling for what will excite consumers, ....you still shouldn't watch this film.. Another film I [can reccomend instead, which you will like more] cannot reccomend (see edit), is "Sphere is a 1998 psychological science fiction thriller film", from Wikipedia. It is similar in what 'it wants to be' as a film, but I think Sphere explores the concepts better which it has chosen, has a better twist, and contains much less 'mindless modern entertainment' that today's movies seem to have entwined into them / interlaced in them.(I was going to say a word which started with en- in the place of 'woven' but I forgot what it was while I was typing it. Could somebody help me out? (the word is not 'enwoven').

EDIT: MA BAD , i watched this movie a REALLY long time ago. "Sphere currently holds a 13% fresh rating at rottentomatoes, with an average score of 4.1/10 and is currently the worst reviewed movie of Dustin Hoffman". Ok, maybe you shouldn't listen to my recommendations. Go watch the second Ghost in the Shell movie, you can't go wrong with that! (unlike the first one there is no nudity).

EDIT2: Ah i DO know a movie which is marginally better than both 'Sphere' and 'Knowing'. It is called "Contact", yet another sci-fi movie which seems like these two movies but much better. Actually, it is much more similar to "Knowing" than "Sphere" is, and does it MUCH better. Rotten tomatoes percentage? 65%.

i do not love latin. i somehow find it really hard recently. ESPECIALLY THE NEW UNSEEN BOOKLETS. like, wth? why are they suddenly so hard? i hate it! i am sick of tacitus as well.

I feel that our latin class is losing steam. we had a rather satisfying discussion for a whole period on the vices of a certain music captain - a pleasant change from the perceived vices of Nero that Tacitus likes to fixate on so much. Seriously, must he constantly infer things about Nero's blackened soul?

Then again, i suppose that Nero did have some traits that might cause people to dislike him. For example, people might be annoyed by his promiscuity. Or something. And they might think he was squandering Rome's money with his large parties (intended, of course, to turn Rome into Alexandria, since he was sulking about his inability to go to Egypt since he uh. went into Vesta's chamber and started trembling with fear. yes, just randomly. this was then taken as a bad omen, so that he then decided it was not a good idea) ummmm poor Tacitus, i must be interpreting him so terribly : ( i am sorry, great writer.

I saw something better than this but i didn't have my camera with me....

I was in the car driving on the freeway, looking up at the clouds. There were clearly two layers of clouds, one more dark and brooding layer, while a higher layer was on top, closer to heaven. The sun shone through the top layer, and as we drove under the darker (bottom) layer, the perspective gave the impression that the dark layer was blanketing us.

Dad didn't notice but I did. I thought to myself, 'I should take a picture to capture this'...but i couldn't. A lack of camera, you see.

There was a much more three dimensional quality to the clouds that time than I had ever seen before.... Unfortunately i could not make any metaphorical links with this because nothing has happened recently which could connect to this.... perhaps the way school is a barrier to reaching what you truly want, the skies above? I do not know. Yes , ying, i am stealing your well used 'do not use a contraction for empasis' ability.

Something else I enjoyed today was the tristam town instrumental...here is a youtube link to it. It is from the second Diablo game, although it has featured in both games. It was written by Matt Uelmen.

Also I enjoyed the song "Temple of Shadows" by Angra. Youtube it or something i cbf getting a link.

Why am I being so weird in my blog post today? I don't know....I thought I had a cold again this morning but now it seems much better. Another excuse could be the 6 SACs (School Assessed Coursework...s) next week. I don't even feel depressed.... more distressed, with an impending sense of doom....a driving force which helps me do some work.... some work.... : (. I would work much better without VCAA (victorian certificate of my ass) on my back.

That reminds me, I was doing this physics question today and i was extremely uspset that I didn't get it. It made me, as commonly said, 'ragequit'. I may ....not rage quit, but tiredquit now, as this post is far too long for anyone to read to the end....er.. i mean i'm tired, i'm sure my writing is the purest form of bliss that humankind has ever witnessed.

The rain and overcast sky give me a cosy feeling. There's something nice about drinking tea while there's thunder and rain falling and it's warm, and doing Latin or reading a book seems like the natural thing to do. I think that cold weather is more conducive to studying. That is why we should do May exams instead of November exams - hm that was a bad joke, it would be quite distressing if that actually happened.

The number of bands auditioning for Battle of the Bands has increased - well, not exponentially, but significantly, as in six-fold. Which means that we must try really hard to GET BACK into our true rockselves. Rehearsals start on monday - wish me luck in playing bass!

Which reminds me, if anyone has a bass that they are not using, we need one rather desperately : ( it would be very much appreciated by all of us. I will, uh, transcribe a song for you. um. yes.

Linguistics Olympiad

Well it seems i'm bored...so i'll recount the events of the Linguistics Olympiad.

I didn't really want to go to this that much....it's just my teacher suggested i do it. She basically picked us, as opposed to the other class who had multiple people wanting to do it and had their names picked from a hat. There were, in total, 6 year 12's, and about 12 year 11's. We hopped on our dodgey bus and went to the olympiad.

The only person i recognised there from another school was kristen, the one of the other contributers to this blog. She was carrying a huge art thing? I don't know.

Anyway, just before we were to start, a bell went off. It sounded like a fire alarm sort of bell, so i semi-yelled 'fire' jokingly. Somebody then came in, and told us to get out of the building.

I still don't know why the fire alarm went off, but we all had to stand outside for about 30 minutes. Kristen questioned the action I was taking while taking this photo, to which i replied "I'm taking a photo of the firetruck". While we were going back inside, the alarm went off again.

Before starting, the examiner told us we probably couldn't finish the entire paper in the 2 hours. Our group involved Me,Ben and Adrian, and we surprisingly did finish in time, of course adrian did three whole problems by himself (the "easy" ones) and ben got the "hardest one". The last one was the best (even though i didn't get to actually do it), as it involved anime. Very slightly.

I wonder how we'll go....

I confess that at times during the night i sit with heated milk and read fanfic voraciously. This, i tell myself, is to console myself about the fact that i am alone, but the truth is -

I am too lazy.

It is, i feel, a sad life when you have lost count of the times you have read [insert trashy fanfic title here]. Then again, i do not know what to say, as Matt is watching the Love Hina Spring Special next to me. Even I did not go that far.

Hopefully tomorrow shall yield more productive results with the rise of the IB spirit.

guys who can sing up to D frighten me

So i was listening to that DBSK song, Doushite Kimi wo Suki ni Shimettandarou, and i noticed that one of them (i assume max, just because i know that he can sing that high - it could be someone else though) randomly sang up to a D. Yes, that is the D an octave above middle C, the D that frequently turns up in songs in assembly, the D that katherine claims she cannot sing, even in headvoice.

Why is that? Why is it that guys are even capable of singing that high???

On Friday i went to see the MGS production of A Midsummer Night's Dream - it was rather amusing. Especially the play, Thisbe and Pyrramus. wth how do you spell pyramus? Phyramus? yes anyway, it was quite hilarious, i spent much of the play laughing while my silent neighbour cast disapproving looks at me. Vincent was quite good as UPRIGHT FROWNING PHILOSTRATE he had quite an amazing booming voice ahahaha.

Hmm i really like the MGS uniform for some reason o__O they have a cool stripy shirt. Sadly even this stripiness is not sufficient to render shorts with long socks acceptable. Please, save our eyes @__@

What else? I am not motivated to do my homework, and Viv asked me to post, so that is why i am here. I am listening to Last Five Years atm. It is the first day of Autumn.

Facebook is TOO DISTRACTING. I must focus on Latin, but how??! Instead i find myself writing a blog entry while listening to oboe concertos! I find the chem prac difficult. That is, I haven't actually tried to do it, but it seems difficult. id difficulum videtur. I think that is completely incorrect.

House concerts are finally over (though they lasted only 3 weeks). I am still in love with Hide and Seek. I wonder if i can obtain the recording ahahaha it is rather different live, since it is cleaner and less electronic. Being, of course, not electronic at all.

I must now return to my homework. It endears me to it by shooting sparks of reproach that sting my mind as I attempt to ignore my duties. How shameful i am. How unlike a pink and wonderful clam. Goodbye.

Journey to the Centre of the Scout Hut

IT's Qi. Qi is reading a comic magazine.

This is Ngan's burger. He likes to eat them. They are from the tuckshop. The tuckshop is dirty. The tuckshop is less dirty than the previous tuckshop.

I am pointing at Tung. I cut his head off becuase he does not enjoy pictures being taken of him.

We were trying to get into the Venturers Hut again. The electronic key did not work, as we could not get it 'charged'(think role playing games). Ironically, the window was left open, so we could bypass the door. Sandbach climbed in the window. He knocked down the curtain.

We were supposedly not supposed to go in the hut as somebody had grafitied the walls. I say walls as all of the walls contained some grafiti. The grafiti reminded me of some horror movie, where the antagonist goes insane and writes on the walls in order to express the antagonist's feelings (see what I did thar).

There is now an extra couch in the scout hall, and a gamecube. We had the classic game, 'Super Smash Bro's Melee'. Anders, who is not in the picture, just pwned Sandbach.

I took a few pictures while I was at school today. These photgrapic records begin in the venturer hut, with a picture of Jitain's note:

This is a modification of a quote from 'Fight Club' which I may have seen.

This is a photo of someone holding a knife. I'm not sure about you, but this is not normal. He isn't even going to cut the sandwich he's eating with the knife.

I'm not sure who drew on this piece of paper but it shows the general decor of the venturer hut room - it is full of penis'. Somebody stole some loose sleeve paper, and with the markers lying around the room drew many things, on them.

Now out of the Venturer's hut, and into the tuckshop. I am not sure what these actually are - they look like there were some spare meatballs and they needed to get rid of them. Good luck with getting people to eat those balls.

Just before entering the last period of school today - chem. It was also what it looked like finishing school, so let's say I took it then. This signifies the end of the school day.

I keep dreaming about those scones that were generously provided this morning after the yr 12 investiture assembly. I really want one of the buttery ones atm. Not the jam and cream ones, although they do look prettier. omg! i feel quite impressed with plc actually. As Linh described it, it was like a leafy picnic with tea and scones - very classy. lol.

Those scones were so pretty though ..and they were free! HOW COULD EMILY SHI RESIST EATING THEM??? it is shocking! then again, if like certain people you hate eating when not hungry, i can see why you would be able to resist. Sadly, Wensi and I both find resistance difficult. So. School has been fun so far. It seems, though, that just as the economy spirals down, so does my economic skill fail to improve. Not only do i find it as boring as ever but I also find it rather alarming that I haven't done any eco homework yet! Then again, I have also not done any english homework. Or maths. I think I must blame house concerts for this. And Latin. Why do i spend so much time on Latin and Chem?? ._. "If you don't like your fate, change it! Today I spent over an hour watching Fate/Stay Night - yes, again. I feel rather guilty, but other than that I did homework/practised for the rest of the time. Except for now, when I am supposed to be arranging house music but instead am blogging. Gah.

Ok. I'll stop now and attempt to finish the carnival song I wrote.

OMG NOOO i must also speak of my traumatising experience last night! As I crawled into my overheated bed beneath a thin orange blanket, I felt somewhat tense. This might have been the cause for what happened next - MY IMAGINATION causing a HALLUCINATION?
And yet it felt so real.
To continue with this account of my (not as dramatic as i am making it out to be) night, I lay still for quite some time attempting to sleep, attempting to ignore the buzzing and humming from insects around my house (to cool the air, we have taken to leaving windows open). WHEN SUDDENLY i heard the noise of: SOMETHING DROPPING FROM THE CEILING ONTO MY BED NEAR MY HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was seriously freaked out, okay. WHAT COULD IT BE? A SPIDER? it sounded kind of crunchy and like...a...very small bomb???!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After this happened for the second time i switched on the light and searched my sheets frantically for some sign of life/small bombs. no, i was mostly scared of insects. yet...i found nothing.

and so to help myself sleep i was forced to use my thick quilt, which gave me a greater sense of security but which also increased the temperature significantly so that my clothing became damp. In fact, in the morning my clothing was also slightly damp when i woke up. Um. Anyway.

That is the end of the account of my distressing night. I hope that tonight i shall sleep without fear of insecs/small bombs dropping from the ceiling onto my face.

looking at this blog with its garish green-ness i was immediately regretful of my decision to join and i cant say by reading the top post at the time was i any more enthused...Wong...disgusting. But do you know what the sad thing is Ying didn't post up her comments, but i can't imagine what one would say to such...abuse.

But i must say i was fascinated by Ying's story about the cat lady..and umbrellas..and tea/coffee...i cant say i remember the story line...but...fascinating none the less.

On a lighter note..or not depending on how you see it. School has begun. I find fate quite amusing sometimes as for the third year in a row i am in room V for maths...i began sleeping in maths in year ten...this escalated to me not being able to stay awake at all in room V ..year eleven came and i failed maths. This year i have high hopes for-like getting into college-so this means i must stay awake in math....Learning...is...fun. -.-

aaaand i got a puppy!!! its now eight weeks and completely adorable!!^^
